A political party can be recognized as a national party if it meets any of the three qualifications outlined in the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968:

If the party wins at least 2% of Lok Sabha (lower house of Parliament) seats from at least three distinct states in a general election.

If the party receives at least 6% of all valid votes cast in four or more states in a general election to the Lok Sabha or the Legislative Assembly.
